Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation in Terrell, TX is seeking a Lead Engineer at Marshall Steam Station to serve as the site subject matter expert for electrical systems and lead complex engineering initiatives.

You will evaluate PM programs, coordinate cross-functional efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive design changes for power systems, transformers, switchgear, and control equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 8 years related engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
• Master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Responsibilities

• Serve as site SME for electrical systems.
• Monitoring and trending system performance.
• Direct onsite testing and troubleshooting activities for emergent issues.
• Maintaining and evaluating PM program performance and recommending adjustments.
• Interface with operations & maintenance and other departments to address system concerns and schedules.
• Develop scope, technical basis, and installation/testing requirements for engineering design changes (AC/DC power systems, transformers, switchgear, etc.).
• Proficient in researching engineering issues and presenting recommendations.
• Serve as station PTAC.

The Lead Engineer is at the specialist level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work, and provide leadership to others in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work. The Lead Engineer serves in lead roles providing guidance to others. They are also expected to have advanced skills and can work independently. This position will support Marshall Steam Station as the Electrical System Owner.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the site subject matter expert for electrical systems.

• Monitoring and trending system/component performance.

• Directing onsite testing and troubleshooting activities for emergent issues.

• Evaluating preventative maintenance (PM) program performance and recommending performance-based adjustments.

• Ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained

• Interface with operations & maintenance, assisting with any other electrical/control system challenges and needs

• Coordinating cross functionally with other departments (such as Regional Engineering, Transmission, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure system concerns, schedules, budgeting, and related issues are properly addressed.

• Maintain plant risk grid for system/equipment responsibilities

• Interfacing with external vendors to ensure technical issues are properly resolved.

• Evaluates Fleet Operating Experience and industry learnings to improve Equipment Reliability.

• Support project management by developing the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, which include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.

• Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

• Serve as station PTAC

Basic/ Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering

• 8 years related work experience

• Professional Engineer

• Understanding basic engineering theories and principles.

• Understanding basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

• Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Understanding of basic principles of project management.

• Experience in the utility industry.

• Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.

• Ability to use Power Plan to build and process projects

• Ability to use Maximo to write WOs for equipment repairs and process PR WO’s to order materials or services for the site.

Specific Requirements

• Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and PE

• Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience

• Professional Engineer registration

• A master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
