Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking an Electrical Business Class Lead to guide a team of engineers and designers through complex architectural and engineering projects across multiple markets.

The role requires strong leadership, mentoring, and the ability to coordinate electrical design work within a full-service A/E team, with responsibility for budgets, schedules, and staffing while advancing design excellence across HDR's practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field.
• 10 years of professional experience.
• Commitment to quality and HDR values.
• Professional engineering registration.
• Experience developing and managing diverse teams.
• Ability to coordinate with other area leaders and marketing managers.
• Active participation in HDR employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and client development activities.
• Manage the technical and operational activities of the electrical discipline.
• Prepare/review project budgets and scopes for the electrical discipline and track budget status.
• Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the discipline.
• Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
• Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
• Facilitate and encourage coordination with other discipline groups.
• Conduct interviews in support of the hiring of new staff for the section and provide new employee mentoring.
• Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
• Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload and quality control issues.
• Advance the skill level of personnel through training, education, experience and similar engagement.
• Coordinate with the electrical discipline managers of other business group locations to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements.
• Prepare/review electrical engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals.
• Monitor changes in codes, regulations and client standards and keep staff up to date on current industry practices.
• Implement any required changes into the electrical design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
• Perform and participate in quality control reviews.
• Serve as a project manager occasionally and/or task lead when applicable.
• Perform project engineer duties when required.
