Scope of Position

An Electrical Journeyman is a highly skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems in industrial and commercial environments. This includes working with high-voltage systems, motor controls, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), cable tray installation, wireway installation, conduit installation, and power distribution equipment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA, and company/customer safety standards.
  • Plan and execute tasks efficiently, minimizing material waste.
  • Lead and monitor crews to complete tasks safely and on schedule.
  • Train and mentor less experienced team members.

  • Participate in daily and final job site clean‑up.
  • Interpret and correct electrical prints and schematics.
  • Plan and install new or modified electrical layouts with minimal waste.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Travel as required.

Minimum Education Required

Education & Years of Experience

High school diploma preferred, minimum of four years in similar facility construction.

A minimum of four years' experience in industrial construction trade, with previous experience in food and/or beverage processing, industrial plants is preferred.

Previous experience supervising five or more mechanics, apprentices, or helpers is highly preferred.

Qualifications
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with customers, fellow supervisors, employees, and suppliers.
  • Must possess tools necessary to perform a job per minimum tool list.
  • Must demonstrate proper lifting techniques and use proper Precautionary Personal Equipment (PPE).
  • Appropriate jurisdictional license(s) are encouraged.
  • Specialized training in construction safety and fork and/or boom lift operations is required.
  • Technical training in construction, electrical, or related fields is preferred.
  • Specialized training in OSHA construction safety, fork and/or boom lift operations, CPR/First Responder and Blood Borne Pathogens is preferred.
  • Previous Experience Managing Timecards And Material/job Invoices Is Preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction materials, methods, tools, and hardware (e.g., fasteners, hangers, bushings, clamps, couplings).
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of machines, pumps, and piping systems.
  • Proficient with mechanical and hydraulic conduit benders.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Skilled in conduit layout, cutting, bending (up to 4" GRC and other types), and installation.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting industrial electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NEC code, OSHA standards, and company safety procedures.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), including email correspondence.
  • Proficient with basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, internet navigation).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of time and materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Must be dependable, honest, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid, insurable driver's license and a clean criminal record (no probation for 1st or 2nd degree felonies).
  • Ability to work in various industrial environments and adapt to fast-paced conditions.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information.
