Job summary

DeKalb County is seeking a skilled technician to install, maintain, calibrate, and repair electronic instruments and energy management systems across water facilities and remote sites. You will support SCADA enhancements, PLC programming, and integration of telemetry with existing hardware and software, ensuring reliable process control.

The role requires an Associate degree in Electronics and at least three years of hands-on experience with analog/digital control equipment, plus a valid Georgia

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Electronics; three years of experience in maintenance and repair of analog and digital industrial control equipment, industrial electronics and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance, training and technical assistance to technicians, maintenance personnel, and contractors.
  • Conducts tests on processes and controls using specialized test equipment; recommends improvements to the SCADA system.
  • Designs, builds, and implements new controls, interfaces, and testing equipment; integrates them into existing controls.
  • Programs, installs, repairs, and expands telemetry systems; integrates systems with other hardware and software.
  • Calibrates, tunes, troubleshoots, and repairs flow and measuring equipment and instrumentation systems.
  • Performs programming changes and upgrades for programmable logic controllers; supports design of new control systems.

Job description

Salary Range: $24.19 - $38.95/Hour Salary Grade: 16 FLSA: Nonexempt

Purpose of Classification

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of all electronic instruments, automatic process control and protective relaying equipment, and energy management systems in Water, Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or Distribution System/Collection System Remote facilities.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provides guidance, training and technical assistance to less experienced technicians, maintenance personnel, and contractors.

Conducts tests on various processes and controls using specialized test equipment and recommends improvements and modifications to the Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and related components.

Designs, builds, and implements new controls, interfaces, and testing equipment and integrates them into existing controls.

Programs, installs, repairs, and expands telemetry system; and integrates system with other hardware and software systems.

Calibrates, tunes, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and integrates various flow and measuring equipment and microprocessor based instrumentation system components which monitor parameters such as pH, conductivity, temperature, turbidity, chlorine, dissolved oxygen, flow rate, level, water/air pressure.

Performs electronic equipment setup, programming, calibrating, and troubleshooting of components such as variable frequency drives, control valves, pump controls, alarm systems, and level monitoring systems.

Installs, maintains, and analyzes malfunctions of computerized control devices, controls and instrument loops, instruments for activated sludge systems, water treatment and the SCADA system; and makes needed repairs.

Performs programming changes and upgrades, calibration, and logic troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers.

Researches and assists with the design of new control systems; and automates old systems.

Performs manual labor tasks associated with maintenance and repair of the systems; installs equipment and components, pulls wires, removes and replaces parts, prepares the work site; and cleans up after work is completed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Electronics; three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of analog and digital industrial control equipment, industrial electronics and test equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
