Job summary

Owens Corning is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician for our Jacksonville, FL facility. The role covers installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of plant electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control systems on-site to support safe, reliable operations.

You will perform preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, troubleshoot PLCs and drives, and work with instrumentation such as transmitters, meters, and sensors, while adhering to NFPA 70E

Qualifications

• Must read electrical/electronic blueprints.
• Proficient troubleshooting of 480/240/120VAC, and 24VDC control systems.
• Understanding of analog and discrete I/O systems.
• Knowledge of 4-20mA, 0-10V, thermocouple, and RTD signals.
• Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet/IP and industrial networks.
• Ability to read P&IDs.

SUMMARY

The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of plant electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control systems. This position supports safe and reliable plant operations through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment, process controls, PLC systems, motor controls, variable frequency drives, and instrumentation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and controls work involving the diagnosis, installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment including PLCs, motor controls, AC/DC drive systems, instrumentation, transducers, computer interface equipment, and associated control systems
• Maintains, constructs, installs, repairs and calibrates any plant electrical, instrument, and metering equipment including pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flow meters, level instruments, load cells, etc.
• Participates in preventive and predictive maintenance programs for plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems
• Performs original electrical/electronic layouts and circuit designs
• Works from information obtained from engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, simple and complex sketches as well as other related documents
• Troubleshoots electrical, electronic and instrument systems
• Applies protective coatings to equipment fabricated, modified, maintained, etc.
• Participates in the safety and good housekeeping programs established within the plant
• Completes Work Orders, Activity Reports, and Work Logs in SAP
• Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by management
• Works in an efficient self-directed manner to resolve electrical issues that plague the plant or a specific process
• Maintain compliance with NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements
• Participates in root cause failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and process uptime

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be able to read electrical/electronic blueprints
• Proficient troubleshooting of 480/240/120VAC, and 24VDC control systems
• Understanding of analog and discrete I/O systems
• Working knowledge of 4-20mA, 0-10V, thermocouple, and RTD signals
• Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet/IP and industrial communications networks
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
• Ability to use calibration equipment and diagnostic software
• Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs)
• Must be able to use different types of electrical meters associated with the task to troubleshoot electrical/electronic problems
• Must have the ability to multi-task
• Ability to safely operate forklifts and aerial lifts
• Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Ability to effectively utilize SAP software
• Ability to run conduit as directed
• Ability to document changes in written formats
• Ability to read and understand PLC logic
• Must be able to plan and execute in written form a safe job plan utilizing electrical safe work practices
• Ability to install and set-up electrical power distribution devices including blade switches, circuit breakers, relays, etc.

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency operating a computer

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required
• Ability to obtain forklift and aerial lift certification upon hire
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older
• Four or more years related experience in an industrial environment
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
• Certified electrician or equivalent experience
• Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, Automation, or Mechatronics Technology
• Allen-Bradley PLC and FactoryTalk experience
• Experience with PowerFlex drives
• SAP maintenance software experience
• Manufacturing experience in continuous process industries

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Exposure to elevated temperatures around process heating and manufacturing equipment
• Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 pounds
• Bending, twisting and climbing ladders
• Regular attendance on site and the ability to work varying or rotating shifts
• Wearing respirator protection
• Participates in the Safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the Plant
