Job summary

MLC is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician for our Calera, AL facility to safely inspect, maintain, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems essential to reliable operations.

This role requires 3–5 years in an industrial environment, at least 3 years of electrician experience, and a valid driver’s license. We offer comprehensive benefits under the collective bargaining agreement and opportunities for career growth.

Qualifications

  • Electrical trade school training or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3–5 years in an industrial environment

  • Ability to work independently and overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Work with motors, motor starters, controllers, inverters, switchgear, lighting, and circuits up to 4160V
  • Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, valves, transmitters, controllers, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and respond to breakdowns efficiently and safely
  • Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Complete work orders, inspections, and parts requests using company systems
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment safely
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members on safety and continuous improvement

About The Job

This role ensures plant electrical and instrumentation systems are safely inspected, maintained, and repaired to support reliable operations and minimize production downtime.

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Work with motors, motor starters, controllers, inverters, switchgear, lighting, and circuits up to 4160V
  • Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, valves, transmitters, controllers, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and respond to breakdowns efficiently and safely
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Complete work orders, inspections, documentation, and parts requests using company systems
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment safely
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to support safety, reliability, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Electrical trade school education or equivalent hands-on training and experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in an industrial environment
  • At least 3 years of direct electrician experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently, respond to call-outs, and work overtime as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrician certification
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC systems, voltages, inductive devices, fault interruption, and distribution
  • Experience using measuring devices and working with analog sensors
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards and best practices
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft applications
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
