Job summary

Chart, Inc. is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support control systems for turbomachinery packages.

You will prepare instrumentation drawings, control narratives, and data sheets while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule targets are met. Join a team that collaborates across design, installation, and commissioning to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.

Qualifications

  • BSME or BSEE from an accredited institution required.
  • Five or more years of experience as an Instrument and Electrical Engineer.
  • Preferred two years of experience in the turbomachinery industry.
  • Working knowledge of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and motor control schematics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of standards and procedures and industry best practices.
  • Ability to produce drawings and documentation in AutoCAD.
  • Some knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all assigned Instrument and Electrical (I//E) projects meet safety, quality, cost and schedule targets.
  • Ensures projects are implemented per L.A. Turbine standards and comply with regulations.
  • Provides expertise and guidance on instrumentation and control systems to engineering and project teams.
  • Develops P&IDs, equipment specs, instrument data sheets, control narratives, and related documentation.
  • Designs control systems, algorithms, network architecture for turbomachinery packages.
  • Programs PLCs, HMIs and other controllers for turbomachinery packages.
  • Reviews vendor quotations, drawings, and data for compliance.
  • Manages the assigned I/C/E work to meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Collaborates with lead mechanical engineers to set technical strategy for complex projects.
  • Provides guidance to customers and field service technicians during construction and commissioning.

The instrumentation and controls engineer will help design and develop control systems and instrumentation as part of turbomachinery packages using his/her instrumentation, controls and electrical (I/C/E) engineering expertise, ensuring work is completed safely, within budget and schedule, and in accordance with the standards required.This team member will provide project and maintenance support to other departments; will prepare documentation in accordance with standards and procedures relevant to industrial turbomachinery; and create, maintain, store, and distribute critical instrumentation, control and electrical (I/C/E) drawings according to procedures and standards.

What Will You Do?
  • Ensures all assignedInstrument andElectrical(I//E) Projects are managed such that the safety, quality, cost and schedule targets are achieved.
  • Ensures the assigned projects are implemented in accordance with L.A. Turbine standards, procedures, and comply with all regulations.
  • Providesexpert knowledge, advice, and direction on instrumentation and control systems to the engineering and project management teams within L.A. Turbine as well as the customer.
  • Participatesin the development of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, instrument data sheets, control narratives, logic diagrams, cause/effectdiagrams, and other documentation typically required for supporting turbomachinery packages.
  • Designscontrol systems, algorithms, network architecture and other engineering activities necessary for the control, monitoring and protection of turbomachinery packages.
  • ProgramsPLCs, HMIs and other controllers necessary for the control, monitoring and protection of turbomachinery packages.
  • Responsible for the review of vendor quotations, drawings and data, ensuring compliance to customer and industry specifications.
  • Managesthe assignedI/C/Ework to meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Worksdirectly with lead mechanical engineers to develop technical strategy for complex industrial projects.
  • Providesguidance and support to customers and L.A. Turbine field service technicians during construction and commissioning activities.
  • Conducts investigations for all system failures and identifiesthe system modifications, upgrades, or changes required to preventfuture issues.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to the I&E Supervisor, I&E Technicians and the Operations Department oninstrument andelectrical systems.
  • Identifiesinstrumentation andelectrical systems training requirements.
  • Developsprocedures, processes and work instructions for I/C/E engineering tasks.
  • Stayscurrent with the latest technical innovations in instrumentation & controls engineering.
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to type, handle, feel, grasp, push, and pull. The individual is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear, operate office equipment (computer, copier, scanner, phone, etc.) and perform repetitive motion. The individual is occasionally required to climb, walk and/or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The individual may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. This position is subject to both office and uncontrolled manufacturing shop environmental conditions, noise and oils, as well as subject to hazards such as, but not limited to, moving parts and vehicles, heat and chemicals.

Your Experience Should Be...
