Propel Career Academy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated part-time instructor with a passion for teaching and developing the next generation of professionals in commercial electrical at the Fishers location. The Instructor will be responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based instruction, ensuring that students gain the technical knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in the workforce. The ideal candidate will have industry experience, teaching experience in vocational/technical education, and a commitment to fostering student success through high-quality, engaging, and effective instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach both theoretical and practical aspects of the trade according to the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Electrical Craft Project Manager Series and/or NC3 Greenlee curriculum along with others.
  • Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans, lectures, and hands-on labs aligned with accredited curriculum.
  • Assess student progress through quizzes, exams, and hands-on evaluations.
  • Provide timely feedback and mentorship to students on academic performance and practical skills development.

Classroom and Lab Management:

  • Manage classroom environment, ensuring a positive, respectful, and productive learning space.
  • Facilitate lab exercises, ensuring student safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Prepare and maintain instructional materials, equipment, and tools for hands-on training.
  • Oversee the use of Blackboard for homework assignments, grading, and attendance record keeping.

Student Engagement & Communication:

  • Foster active student participation, promoting a high level of engagement and motivation.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, addressing individual needs and helping them overcome challenges.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students, encouraging their active involvement in their learning experience.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and performance reports.
  • Ensure all required reports are submitted in a timely and accurate manner (e.g., GPA, attendance, performance).
  • Participate in student progress meetings, providing input on student success and challenges.
  • Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain certifications and stay current with industry trends.
  • Complete the NCCER ICTP Instructor Training and other relevant certifications as required.
  • Actively engage in leadership and peer collaboration, sharing best practices and contributing to the overall success of the training program for continuous improvement .

Instructor Requirements:

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of journey-level or technician-level experience in electrical
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a vocational, technical, or trade-related field, preferably within a construction, maintenance, or technical training program.
  • Proven ability to effectively teach both theory and practical skills in a classroom and hands-on setting.

Certifications & Training:

  • Completion of or willingness to complete NCCER ICTP (Instructor Certification Training Program) Initial and Continuous Instructor Betterment Training. Competency or familiarity with Mike Holt and Tom Henry Education.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and motivate diverse student populations.
  • Ability to prepare, implement, and adjust lesson plans that align with accredited curriculum.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology and media tools for instructional purposes, such as online videos, PowerPoint presentations, and mock-up equipment.
  • Physical ability to demonstrate and facilitate hands-on labs and exercises.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to balance teaching, grading, and administrative duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to foster positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a classroom and lab environment, which may require lifting and moving equipment and materials.
  • Ability to perform hands-on demonstrations and physically engage in lab activities, including but not limited to operating tools, machinery, and technology related to the trade.
  • Classroom and lab settings with exposure to typical trade environments.
  • Must adhere to safety standards and procedures when teaching and supervising students in labs and workshops.

Work Schedule & Conditions:

  • Hours will vary depending on class time. Instructors are required to meet with classes at scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction
  • PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a skilled trades laboratory, which may include exposure to high noise environments and weather-related working conditions
