This install engineer will be able to read/design electrical install schematics, use AutoCAD Electrical, perform electrical install calculations, have knowledge to perform field install startups & testing, work in industrial environments, have detailed knowledge of electric motor controls, utility circuits, safety circuits, and operator controls, as related to installing overhead cranes and hoists. This install engineer will be able to troubleshoot and resolve problems including, but not limited to circuit breakers, transformers, motor starters, contactors, relays, A.C./D.C. inverters, braking resistors, etc. Install startups and field service activities can be both domestic and internationally and may last for 1-2 months at a time.

Responsibilities
  • Function as an electrical install engineer at site/office and provide technical supervision to other electrical and mechanical engineers, technicians, craft, and other workers on a daily basis for the site/office. Work in implementing the Installation Supervisor’s electrical objectives and processes needed at the customer’s site. Work with the project manager to establish on-site install work requirements, determine what is needed at the site to keep customer acceptance moving forward, meet schedules, and daily review install tasks of work activities.
  • Writing detailed step-by-step install procedures based on crane install activities.
  • Design and build all required cabinets/temporary power panels required to successfully perform the installation. These would be worked out based on the tools required to perform the installations.
  • Be the engineering install engineer at the site to get the install equipment ready for testing and then accomplish the testing in the most effective path forward as possible. This would include supporting the electrical engineer with the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) procedure, step by step, with the customer to prove the install equipment works as intended.

The SAT test also contains necessary hold points (as decided by the customer) for various quality checks and approvals prior to continuation (e.g. successful inspections after the load tests, successful testing and operation of the Protection System and Safety Functions). At the conclusion of the SAT test, backup install operations are repeated to ensure the latest software snapshots and parameters are saved to the system Laptop.
  • Excellent customer relations attitude: the install electrical engineer needs to be a solution-oriented person that will work to satisfy the customer and complete the install/testing/start up as expeditiously as possible. The willingness and drive to self-teach/learn new material and understand install design concepts.
  • Provide input to install/design improvements by providing information to the Installation Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer that shows improved functions and/or cost reduction.
