A renowned engineering firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Inspector III in Washington, D.C. to apply inspection procedures during and after construction to ensure structural quality and safety compliance. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, at least 4 years of construction inspection experience, and relevant electrical certifications. Qualifications

  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience.
  • Must possess Non-Governmental Electrical Inspector certification from MD State Office of Fire Marshal.
  • Must achieve Non-Governmental certification within 6 months from NTP.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans and specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Perform routine tests on construction materials.
  • Measure and verify dimensions of structures and fixtures.
  • Coordinate and supervise inspection activities.
  • Draft project correspondence and facilitate project meetings.
  • Maintain record documents.
  • Lead and manage team members.

Job description

Electrical Inspector III

Position summary: Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation for this position is $45.00- $55.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential functions and responsibilities
  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
  • Perform routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
  • Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
  • Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
  • Gather and maintain record documents
  • Make field notes and computations
  • Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of the team.

Required Skills
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's motor vehicle screening
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience.
  • Must possess at least one of the following certifications:
    • Commercial Electrical Inspector (International Code Council – ICC)
    • Master Electrician License in the State of Maryland
    • NICET Certification as Level II Electrical Power Testing (NICET)
    • Fire Alarm Systems – Associate Engineering Technician (NICET Level II)
    • Commercial Fire Alarm Inspector (International Code Council – ICC)
  • Must possess Non‑Governmental Electrical Inspector certification from MD State Office of Fire Marshal (or achieve certification within 6 months from NTP).
Preferred Experience
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations
  • Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/Responsible in Charge role
Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as required. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Current project is located in Washington, DC. Must be able to work nights as required.
