Job summary

The role will inspect and maintain electrical installations as part of a statewide highway construction and maintenance program, ensuring work complies with the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code. Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical wiring plans and specifications.
• Ability to prepare reports concerning defects in electrical installations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, superiors and electrical contractors.
• Possess a Class B journeyman electrician's license issued by the RI Board of Examiners of Electricians.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain electrical installations in conjunction with a statewide highway construction or maintenance program.
• Confirm all electrical installations follow NEC and NESCode requirements.
• Inspect street lighting poles and fixtures for proper wiring, grounding, and fusing.
• Inspect transformer vaults—wire sizes, insulation types, voltage, breakers, and interrupting capacity.
• Inspect conduits and ducts for size and underground angle of inclination.
• Inspect traffic lights and controllers to ensure compliance and proper grounding; controllers must be gas sealed from adjacent manholes.
• Collect data from test runs on electrical equipment (meters, amps, volts, watts, illuminometers).
