WSP USA is seeking an Electrical Inspector to join a data center inspection team in facilities near the Houston, TX area. This full-time, onsite role acts as owners' representative observing and tracking the delivery, installation, and testing of electrical and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction and/or quality assurance experience, incl. 2+ years in complex facilities (data center, hospital, large-scale).
  • Experience with large-scale electrical and mechanical installations and testing/commissioning.
  • Familiarity with major regulations, industry codes, and construction means.
  • Experience performing Level 2 commissioning inspections and pre-energization activities.
  • Technical-college training or military tech background.
  • Able to navigate uneven sites, ladders, and active construction environments.
  • QA/commissioning certifications desired but not required (e.g., CDCAP, DCEP, ICC, CxA, NICET, ASHRAE, USACE CQM).
  • Must pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the client's quality program and project drawings/specs via routine inspections (Level 2 commissioning).
  • Use electronic field device to communicate and track inspection results and note deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with owners' representatives, manufacturers, CM, GC, and subs.
  • Read project schedules to determine required inspections per specs.
  • Schedule inspections/tests with GC and subs based on look-ahead schedules.
  • Prepare daily/weekly inspection reports and summarize results.
  • Track inspection issues through resolution.
  • Tailor inspection checklists for project-specific equipment.
  • Recognize trends, investigate root causes, and suggest process improvements.

Job description

WSP USA is seeking an Electrical Inspector to join a data center inspection team in facilities near the Houston, TX. Area.

This full-time, onsite Quality Assurance staff member will be responsible as an owners' representative for observing and tracking the delivery, installation, and testing of electrical and mechanical systems of a large-scale mission-critical facility to ensure compliance with the project-specific drawings and specifications.

Your Impact
  • Ensures compliance with the client's quality program and project-specific drawings and specifications via routine inspections (e.g., Level 2 commissioning) of all electrical and mechanical components and systems
  • Use an electronic field device and software (e.g., iPad with ACC BUILD) to communicate and track results of inspections and note deficiencies of installed components throughout the construction and early commissioning process
  • Work in a dynamic team environment as the owners' representative with manufacturers, construction managers, general contractor and their lower-tiered subcontractors
  • Will read project schedules and determine necessary inspections required based on project and client specifications
  • Proactively schedule inspections and tests with the general contractor and lower-tiered subcontractors based on short term look-ahead schedule
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports summarizing the inspections performed and their results
  • Track documented inspection issues / shortcomings through to resolution
  • Will tailor provided general inspection checklists for project specific equipment
  • Recognize installation trends, take initiative to investigate root-cause analysis, and recommend process improvement
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • 5 - 7+ years of construction and/or quality assurance experience, of which 2+ years of experience include complex, mission-critical facilities; data center, hospital, or large-scale construction experience required
  • Experience with large-scale, complex electrical and mechanical installations, and the testing and/or commissioning of similar systems
  • Demonstrated experience with major regulations, industry codes, and standards affecting mechanical and electrical installations, as well as standard mechanical, electrical, and plumbing materials and means of construction
  • Experience performing Level 2 commissioning inspections for set-in-place installations and pre-energization activities
  • College, trade school, or military training in a technical discipline.
  • Able to walk distances on uneven sites, climb small ladders, and work in an active construction environment
  • Certifications in quality assurance or commissioning are desired, but not required (e.g., CDCAP, DCEP, ICC, CxA, NICET, ASHRAE, USACE CQM, etc.)
  • Must pass background check
