Job summary

MST Technology, Inc. seeks an Electrical & Instrumentation/Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our Oak Ridge, Tennessee team.

You will design and support electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems for DOE and nuclear projects, collaborating across disciplines to ensure compliant, reliable designs. Candidates with DOE/nuclear experience and an active Q clearance are preferred; strong drawing reading skills and knowledge of NEC/IEEE standards are essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• 4+ years electrical and/or I&C engineering experience.
• Experience with electrical power distribution and/or instrumentation/control systems.
• Ability to read and develop engineering drawings and documentation.
• Knowledge of electrical/I&C codes and standards.
• U.S. citizenship; DOE Q clearance eligible.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical power systems, instrumentation, and control systems for DOE and commercial nuclear projects.
• Provide engineering deliverables: one-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, I&C logic diagrams, equipment specifications, load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, arc flash, cable schedules.
• Perform power systems modeling and analysis using ETAP or SKM.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, ISA and other standards.
• Participate in configuration management, technical reviews, and design verification.
• Support construction, testing, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
• Interface with mechanical, structural, and systems engineering teams.
• Assist with estimating and scheduling engineering efforts.
• Mentor junior engineers if in a senior role.

Job description

MS Technology, Inc. is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation/Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN. This position will support challenging electrical and controls design projects for DOE and nuclear facilities, with opportunities to work across power distribution, instrumentation, control systems, testing, and implementation. Candidates with experience in either electrical power systems or instrumentation and controls are encouraged to apply. Nuclear/DOE experience and an active Q clearance are preferred.

Location: On-Site in Oak Ridge, TN

Salary: Depending on Experience

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical power systems, instrumentation, and control systems for DOE and commercial nuclear projects.
• Provide engineering deliverables, including:
  • One-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams
  • Instrumentation and control logic diagrams
  • Equipment specifications and calculations (e.g., load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, arc flash)
  • Cable schedules and material take-offs
• Perform power systems modeling and analysis using software tools like ETAP or SKM.
• Ensure designs are compliant with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, ISA, and other applicable standards.
• Participate in configuration management, technical reviews, and design verification.
• Support construction, testing, startup, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
• Interface with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, structural, and systems engineering.
• Assist with estimating and scheduling engineering efforts.
• Mentor junior engineers, if in a senior role.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• 4+ years relevant electrical and/or I&C engineering experience
• Experience with electrical power distribution and/or instrumentation/control systems
• Ability to read and develop applicable engineering drawings and documentation
• Knowledge of applicable electrical/I&C codes and standards
• U.S. citizenship
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active DOE Q clearance
• DOE or commercial nuclear design experience
• Tennessee PE or ability to obtain PE
• ETAP or SKM
• PLC/DCS experience, including Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or Siemens
• Medium-voltage distribution experience
• Instrument selection and datasheet preparation
• P&ID experience
• NQA-1 experience
