Job description

Field-based Electrical Technician responsible for installation, startup, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium- and high-voltage electrical power systems. This role supports utility, industrial, power generation, renewable energy, data center, and critical infrastructure projects involving substations, switchgear, transformers, relays, breakers, and power distribution equipment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, startup, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems ranging from 4.16kV through 138kV+.
  • Install, inspect, and service transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, motor control centers (MCCs), bus duct, and power distribution equipment.
  • Conduct field acceptance testing, commissioning, and operational verification of electrical infrastructure and power systems.
  • Perform relay testing, breaker testing, insulation resistance testing, transformer testing, cable testing, and related electrical diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist with energization activities and commissioning of substations, utility interconnections, industrial facilities, and power distribution systems.
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, relay schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment failures, control circuits, protection systems, and power distribution issues in the field.
  • Complete wiring terminations, equipment connections, control panel modifications, and field installation activities.
  • Support planned outages, maintenance activities, startup events, and emergency response situations as required.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, commissioning teams, utility representatives, and equipment manufacturers during project execution.
  • Document testing results, commissioning activities, maintenance records, and field service reports.
  • Maintain strict compliance with safety procedures including lockout/tagout, arc flash requirements, grounding practices, and OSHA regulations.
Required Experience
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card).
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience installing, testing, commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting electrical power systems.
  • Strong background working with medium-voltage and high-voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, substations, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience performing electrical testing and commissioning activities in industrial, utility, power generation, renewable energy, data center, or infrastructure environments.
  • Working knowledge of electrical test equipment and industry-standard commissioning practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, relay schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills involving electrical power and control systems.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, customer facilities, and commissioning assignments.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work independently in field environments.
