Electrical Field Services Engineer – Plant Gaston

TSS Technical Services - Electrical Systems & Field Support

This position will be located at Plant Gaston in Wilsonville, AL

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to provide technical services in the electrical discipline to fossil, gas and renewable generating facilities within the Southern Company. These services include but are not limited to problem resolution, routine testing, design review, checkout and startup of new equipment, technical consulting, and unplanned/emergency callouts (afterhours).

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS (LOCATION & TRAVEL)

  • This position will be under TSS within the Technical Services – Electrical Systems & Field Support department.

  • This position will be based at Plant Gaston and will support multiple generation site locations to include: Gaston, Central Alabama, Harris CC, and hydro dams on the Lower Coosa and Tallapoosa rivers

  • Occasional overnight travel will be required – approximately 25%.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required

Experience:

  • Customer oriented work ethic

  • Broad general knowledge of power plant systems

  • Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution

  • Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switchgear concepts and designs

  • Proficiency in switchgear electrical control and applications

  • Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy

  • Ability to communicate with plant employees at all working and management levels

  • Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain technical proficiency in the above-mentioned areas

  • Cultivate and maintain contacts and relationships within the plant

  • Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • Be a role model both technically and in dealing with customers for other engineers

  • Maintain an awareness of the financial impact of Technical Services' support

  • Take an active role in the development of new employees
