Job summary

Southern Company in Georgia seeks an electrical engineer to deliver technical services for fossil and hydroelectric generating facilities, including problem resolution, testing, design review, startup of new equipment, and emergency support.

The role supports multiple generation sites in the central region of Georgia with occasional overnight travel (~25%), relocation assistance possible for candidates outside the area, and a focus on safety and customer-focused service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Engineer) or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (Analyst).
• Customer oriented work ethic.
• Broad general knowledge of power plant systems.
• Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution.
• Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switchgear concepts and designs.
• Proficiency in switchgear electrical control and applications.
• Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy.
• Ability to communicate with plant employees at all working and management levels.
• Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Maintain technical proficiency in the above mentioned areas.
• Cultivate and maintain contacts and relationships within the plant.
• Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost effective manner.
• Be a role model both technically and in dealing with customers for other engineers.
• Maintain an awareness of the financial impact of Technical Services' support.
• Take an active role in the development of new employees.
