Job description

Electrical Estimator – Bala Cynwyd, PA

LF Driscoll, part of the STO Building Group, is looking for an Electrical Estimator to support our operations in Bala Cynwyd. The role involves developing, creating, and preparing electrical cost estimates for a diverse set of projects during early stages of development and supporting the project team throughout the Pre‑construction phase. The position requires handling several projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities
  • Review plans and MEP drawings.
  • Prepare quantity take‑offs on assigned projects.
  • Ensure a complete review of plans and drawings; identify omitted items and account for them in the overall estimate package.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and solicit subcontractor bids for projects totaling $50‑$150 million per year.
  • Obtain 3‑5 bids for each trade and supplier group; review and analyze bids for conformance to project specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages, and related items.
  • Discuss and resolve any questions with subcontractors.
  • Follow approved estimating practices to produce the most complete estimates and meet financial objectives.
  • Maintain current information on construction code trends and changes.
  • Use appropriate software programs to calculate, record, and track estimates.
  • Attend client meetings, answer questions, and resolve issues regarding pricing and estimates to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Perform change order pricing, site visits, bid delivery, and collaborate with teams on specific bids.
  • Determine material and labor requirements, prepare itemized lists, compute cost factors, and create estimates used for planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Conduct special studies to establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues; obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
  • Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating.
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs; determine reasons for discrepancies and provide improvement recommendations to reduce future differences and identify cost trends.
Qualifications
  • BS or BA required; preferred fields include construction, management, engineering, or architecture.
  • 5+ years of experience in estimating, general contractor estimating and purchasing, or related construction engineering/project engineering duties.
  • Open to candidates transitioning from field operations to pre‑construction.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially MS Office/Excel; well‑developed budgeting, purchasing, and organizational skills.
  • Earns and maintains trust by demonstrating honesty, accountability, and reliability.
