Job summary

Franklin Electric Co. is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician II to support prototype development, perform performance testing, and ensure reliability of test equipment in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

You will design, assemble, test PCB assemblies, and assist with regulatory certification processes. The role emphasizes hands-on testing of electronics, circuit analysis, and collaboration with engineers to bring innovative water-management solutions to market.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in engineering or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years electronics or electrical engineering tech experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist product engineers by preparing experiments, collecting data, and recording results.
  • Help design and implement product testing infrastructure.
  • Test, repair, monitor, and maintain equipment and test fixtures.
  • Assist with circuit design and PCB assembly testing.
  • Identify and order parts for product development.
  • Prepare records for regulatory compliance and certification.
  • Analyze returned materials and troubleshoot components.
  • Support root cause analysis of failures.
  • Contribute design input and participate in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with customers to meet specifications and improve products.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist product engineers by preparing and conducting experiments, collecting data, and calculating or recording results.
  • Aid in designing and implementing product testing infrastructure
  • Test, repair, monitor, and maintain equipment, systems, test fixtures, and/or assemblies.
  • Assist with the design of various electronic circuits, assemblies, and software.
  • Assemble and test PCB assemblies incorporating thru hole and surface mount components.
  • Identify and order necessary parts to support product development.
  • Prepare and manage records for regulatory compliance and certification.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot returned materials and electronic components.
  • Assist investigation of electronic components for Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Contribute to product development by providing design input and participating in design reviews.
  • Work with internal and external customers to supply specifications, improve products, and monitor Field Trial units.
  • Follow industry and company safety guidelines.
  • Operate and troubleshoot products with a heavy focus on variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

What you need:

  • Read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to read and interpret complex circuits schematics.
  • Write technical reports and test procedures.
  • Work with general guidelines and standardized procedures/instructions.
  • Able to operate, troubleshoot, and make technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Use standard assembly techniques using soldering iron and standard hand tools.
  • Use complex machines and electronic test equipment (such as oscilloscope, digital volt meter, function generator).
  • Effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and other employees of the organization.
  • Identify and learn new technologies related to job duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality and use discretion with business information

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field or equivalent experience (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant education or experience in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related field (required).

Computer Skills

  • Intermediate: Alphanumeric data entry, spreadsheet
  • Basic: Microsoft Office suite, Python, National Instruments FlexLogger, LabVIEW.
