Job summary

A premier government contractor is seeking engineering support personnel for the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. Candidates must have relevant technical qualifications, with either an associates degree and experience or extensive relevant experience without a degree. Responsibilities include drafting technical documents and collaborating with engineering teams. Candidates must be US citizens, at least 18 years of age, and meet clearance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associates or higher degree in a technical field and 6-10 years of related experience.
  • High school diploma and 13-19 years of relevant experience may be accepted.
  • DOE Q Clearance Preferred.
  • Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and other technical drawings.
  • Preparing specifications and walkdown reports.
  • Collaborating with electrical engineers and CAD drafters.
  • Supporting construction and operational activities.
  • Little to no travel (less than 5%).
  • Typical work schedule: Mon.-Thu. 10-hour days (4/10).

Job description

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y‑12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities
  • Drafting in Bentley MicroStation: One-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, Instrumentation and Controls Diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, fire alarm and communication drawings
  • Preparing data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports
  • Work in concert with electrical engineers and other CAD drafters from the same work group
  • Must be able to support construction and operational activities related to design outputs. Field walkdowns will be required sometimes in radiologically contaminated areas.
  • Little to no (<5%) travel is expected.
  • Typical work schedule will be Mon.-Thur. 10-hour days (4/10 schedule)
Qualifications
  • Associates or higher degree in a technical field and 6-10 years of related experience or high school diploma and 13-19 years of relevant experience. Requires advanced knowledge and understanding in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes, or systems.
  • DOE Q Clearance Preferred
  • Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems
  • Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A
Special Requirements
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
