Job summary

Orion Placement seeks an experienced patent prosecution attorney with 3+ years in the field and a genuine Electrical Engineering background. The role is hybrid, based in Louisville, CO, with at least 2 days in the office and USPTO-registered licensure. You will draft and prosecute electrical patents, advise clients, and help grow the practice.

Salary ranges from $180,000 to $250,000 per year with comprehensive benefits and potential upside through revenue sharing and bonuses.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of direct patent prosecution experience.
  • JD and active attorney bar license.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Genuine Electrical Engineering educational and technical background.
  • Experience handling patents involving electrical or related technologies.
  • Strong patent drafting, prosecution strategy, and portfolio management skills.
  • Excellent client communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Comfortable working in the Louisville office at least 2 days per week.
  • Colorado admission is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications involving electrical, electronic, software, and related technologies.
  • Develop prosecution strategies and advise clients on portfolio management.
  • Work directly with inventors, executives, engineers, and in-house teams.
  • Counsel clients on patentability, portfolio strategy, and design-around issues.
  • Take ownership of client relationships and become a trusted advisor.
  • Collaborate with experienced patent attorneys with technical and legal backgrounds.
  • Contribute to client development and relationship management as the practice grows.
  • Support long-term growth and leadership succession of the practice.

Location: Hybrid position based in Louisville, Colorado, just outside Boulder. We value flexibility while staying connected as a team, with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Note: Candidates must have 3+ years of substantive patent prosecution experience, USPTO registration, an active attorney license, and a genuine Electrical Engineering background through education and significant patent work involving electrical technologies.
