Job summary

AECOM seeks an Electrical Engineering Lead for data centers, primarily remote in the U.S. You will design, implement, and oversee electrical systems for hyper-scale facilities, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Occasional onsite collaboration may be required as well as leadership for mid-level engineers and client engagements. You should hold a PE license with 10+ years in data center infra, and be adept with NEC/IEC standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of data center infrastructure experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and IEC codes.
  • Experience leading electrical design for large data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement electrical systems for hyper-scale data centers, including power distribution and backup systems.
  • Develop electrical schematics, BOMs, and installation drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC/IEC and industry standards.
  • Provide project leadership and mentoring to engineers.
  • Lead client relationships and support engineering sales.

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will design, implement, and maintain electrical systems in large-scale hyper‑scale data centers, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and safety. The role requires a strong background in electrical engineering with experience working in high‑density data center environments.

Travel

Although primarily remote, occasional travel may be required for client meetings, project milestones, and onsite collaboration sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement electrical systems for hyper‑scale data centers, including medium and low‑voltage power distribution, backup power systems, and emergency systems.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, bills of materials, and installation drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including NEC and IEC.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to develop specifications, design criteria, and project budgets.
  • Analyze electrical systems to identify and resolve issues, such as load balancing, capacity planning, and power consumption optimization.
  • Monitor and maintain electrical systems, including preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs.
  • Develop and implement electrical safety procedures and training programs for technicians and other staff.
  • Stay current on advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies, recommending new technologies to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Provide project leadership in the electrical discipline, mentoring mid‑level engineers and acting as Engineer of Record.
  • Provide estimates for engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large, complex projects.
  • Lead technical client relationships and play a major role in engineering sales.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design and/or engineering focusing on data center infrastructure, or equivalent experience and education.
  • Professional Engineer License (P.E.) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 12 years of relevant experience in electrical design and/or engineering focusing on data center infrastructure, or equivalent experience and education.
  • Extensive experience in electrical engineering for data centers or other critical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Creative thinking to enhance client experience.
  • Experience with BIM software, specifically ACC Cloud.
  • Experience with data center design and construction, including design criteria and industry standards.
