Job summary

Valero seeks Electrical Engineering interns to support refinery projects at Port Arthur Refinery and other sites. You’ll work on power distribution safety, control schemes, and instrumentation with mentors and hands-on assignments.

The program emphasizes hands-on experience, professional development and teamwork, with on-site roles and overtime eligibility where applicable. Graduation between Aug 2027 and May 2029 is expected.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing Electrical Engineering with coursework in power, controls or instrumentation.
• GPA 3.2 on a 4.0 scale preferred.
• Strong problem solving and teamwork mindset.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical power engineering safety and reliability initiatives.
• Assist process controls and instrumentation projects under mentorship.
• Contribute to design reviews and startup/commissioning activities.

Major Accountabilities

The internship program inspires tomorrow’s innovators by developing highly motivated Electrical Engineering majors who are ready for challenging projects in the following areas:

• Electrical (Power) Engineering: Responsible for overall safety & reliability of industrial power distribution system. Supports refinery projects by developing equipment design specifications, performing engineering design reviews & providing startup/commissioning technical support. Develops & leads electrical reliability improvement initiatives.
• Process Controls Engineering: Develops & implements process control schemes in plant-distributed control system. Recommends options to optimize refinery operations.
• Instrument Engineering: Provides technical expertise for specification, design, purchase & commission of process instruments. Designs instrumented systems such as programmable logic controllers & safety-rated logic solvers. Troubleshoots instrument problems for Operations & Maintenance.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Electrical Engineering, required.
• Overall GPA of 3.2 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
• Graduation dates of August 2027 through May 2029, required.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, required.
• Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required.
