Job summary

Valero invites Electrical Engineering students to join its internship program across multiple refinery locations. This paid, on-site internship offers hands-on projects, mentorship, and professional development.

Eligible candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, with GPA 3.2+, able to work 40 hours weekly and graduating Aug 2027–May 2029; TWIC eligibility and background checks apply. Locations include Houston, Corpus Christi, Meraux, and other sites.

• Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, required.
• Overall GPA of 3.2 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
• Graduation dates of August 2027 through May 2029, required.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, required.
• Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required.

Responsibilities

• Electrical (Power) Engineering: safety and reliability of industrial power distribution systems in refinery projects.
• Process Controls Engineering: develops control schemes in plant DCS and optimizes refinery operations.
• Instrument Engineering: design, purchase and commissioning of process instruments including PLCs and safety solvers; troubleshoot.

Major Accountabilities

The internship program inspires tomorrow’s innovators by developing highly motivated Electrical Engineering majors who are ready for challenging projects in the following areas:

• Electrical (Power) Engineering: Responsible for overall safety & reliability of industrial power distribution system. Supports refinery projects by developing equipment design specifications, performing engineering design reviews & providing startup/commissioning technical support. Develops & leads electrical reliability improvement initiatives.
• Process Controls Engineering: Develops & implements process control schemes in plant-distributed control system. Recommends options to optimize refinery operations.
• Instrument Engineering: Provides technical expertise for specification, design, purchase & commission of process instruments. Designs instrumented systems such as programmable logic controllers & safety-rated logic solvers. Troubleshoots instrument problems for Operations & Maintenance.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

• Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Electrical Engineering, required.
