Job summary

Cummings Electrical in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is seeking an Electrical Engineering Summer Intern to work with experienced engineers and gain real-world experience for the PE exam. The internship supports day-to-day engineering challenges in electrical construction.

You will perform design work in AutoCAD, run short-circuit and coordination studies with SKM Power Tools, and do hand calculations in Excel to verify results. Most work is in a climate-controlled office.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering student with 2 years of coursework toward a bachelor's degree.
• GPA at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale and a strong motivation to apply academics in design.
• Willing to commit 20–40 hours per week during the internship.

Responsibilities

• Electrical design using AutoCAD for projects.
• Perform short-circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies with SKM Power Tools.
• Hand calculations using Excel to verify results.

We're looking for College Interns!

Cummings Electrical is seeking an Electrical Engineering Summer Intern to work directly with experienced electrical engineers. Our internship is designed to give real-world experience necessary to apply for the PE exam. The internship will support the day to day engineering challenges supporting Electrical Construction.

Responsibilities

• Electrical Design using AutoCAD
• Short-Circuit, Arc Flash, and Coordination Studies using SKM Power Tools
• Hand Calculations using Excel to check program calculation results

Working Conditions

• Mainly office but may also include all other work environments as required: sit, stand, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and telephone
• Work is generally performed in climate -controlled office environment
• Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment
• Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal
• May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment
• Can be exposed to hazardous materials, loud noises and extreme heat/cold temperatures, if visiting job sites or other off-site events
• Can be exposed to Heavy Equipment, slippery surfaces, uneven footing on the jobsite
• Moderate noise ( i.e. business office with computers, phone , and printers, light foot traffic)

Physical Functions

• Repeat the same mental activities
• Ability to operate a keyboard at efficient speed and typical business office equipment, including computer hardware
• Regularly required to talk and/or hear; use hands to operate objects, tools or controls (phone, computer, printer etc.); and reach with hands and arms
• Work performed causes fatigue of eyes, fingers and other facilities because of continuous use of motor senses
• Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges
• May be occasionally be asked to lift, stoop, kneel, and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear and use hands
• Regular, predictable attendance is required

Qualifications

• At least 2 years credit towards a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
• Motivated self-starter with an interest to apply academic training within product design
• Flexible commitment 20-40 hours per work week during the length of internship
• Applicant must reside in TX (DFW area) or have the ability to relocate and secure their own housing for the duration of the program
