Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to support project teams on power plant systems design and upgrades. You will work under senior engineers to prepare calculations, specifications, and designs while gaining hands-on experience in project reporting and data tracking.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a BS or MS engineering program, graduating Spring 2028, with strong communication and PC skills. ABET accreditation is preferred, and prior internship experience is a plus.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills.

  • Work on project reporting and data tracking across activities.
  • Be involved in power distribution designs and procurement specifications for major electrical equipment and installation services.

Description
  • As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures.
  • Working under the direction of senior engineers, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Electrical Engineering in one or more of the following areas:
    • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
    • Work on a variety of tasks associated with project reporting, such as tracking and evaluating project activities, project progress, and associated data.
    • Be involved in power distribution designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a BS or MS engineering program with a strong academic background and coursework in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
    • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is preferred
  • Must be graduating by Spring 2028
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience is preferred
  • Coursework and/or experience in mechatronics and/or robotics
  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design

  • You are expected to take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$18.00 - $30.00
