Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Nuclear Power Group. The role focuses on electrical systems design for new plants or modifications, with emphasis on power distribution, calculations, and equipment specifications.

You will work with a team of engineers and designers, travel to client sites, review drawings, and contribute to design inputs while leveraging ABET-accredited training and 3+ years of experience.

Qualifications

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical power systems design for plants or modifications.
  • Experience with medium and low voltage distribution, equipment selection, and calculations.
  • Ability to liaise with clients and review designs; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Detail oriented with ability to work in teams and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical systems design for new plants or modifications with equipment selection.
  • Prepare calculations: load flow, short circuit, and power flow analyses.
  • Prepare equipment and material specifications and design inputs.
  • Review designs and liaise with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers; support project execution.

Description

This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Electrical Engineering in a professional position that offers a wide range of interesting and challenging responsibilities.

The opportunity will have you teaming up with other engineers and designers involved in nuclear plant electrical systems betterment and associated modifications, which will include the following:

  • Electrical systems design
  • Preparation of complex calculations
  • Load flow and short circuit
  • Power flow
  • System Impact
  • Cable ampacity
  • Preparation of documented design inputs
  • Preparation of equipment and material specifications
  • Preparation of design reports

Additional opportunities will include:

  • Receive training and mentorship from experienced engineers in the execution of meaningful project engineering assignments
  • Become involved in power distribution designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
  • 3+ years of experience in the design of electrical power systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants, or modifications or replacements for existing plants; experience should include the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience is required with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective working in teams and individual work
  • Detail oriented approach to work

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PE license
  • MSEE
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus
  • Experience performing transient analysis of power systems using software such as ETAP or SKM

  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

$74,353 - $113,595
