Job summary

Sappi North America Cloquet Operations is seeking an energetic Electrical Engineering co-op student for a nine-month, full-time opportunity starting January 2026. The role involves CAD drafting, document management, and project support under the guidance of senior engineers.

You will gain hands-on experience with Electrical, Instrumentation, and general engineering tasks while contributing to production efficiency improvements. A GPA of 3.0+ and MS Office/Autodesk familiarity are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in an accredited engineering program with GPA 3.0 or higher.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide CAD drafting services for Electrical, Instrumentation and general engineering design.
• Support document management: distribution, filing and maintenance of drawings and documents.
• Complete safety training and work with an engineer on projects to improve production efficiency.
• Assist with planning, scheduling and presentations on special projects.
• Learn from Lead Project Engineer and Lead Designer under supervision.

Sappi Cloquet, established in 1898, produces high-quality graphic papers used in premium magazines, catalogs, books, direct mail and high-end print advertising for the fashion, automotive and travel industries, as well as speciality papers. Cloquet manufactures Verve, a dissolving pulp used for the textile and home goods markets. Energy saving and clean water initiatives at Cloquet have won environmental recognition, aligning with the mill's commitment to sustainability.

Sappi, Cloquet Operations, is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Electrical Engineering student to fill a Co-op position available in the Engineering Department. This full-time paid co-op is a nine month co-op opportunity starting in January 2026.

The co-op engineer will work with Electrical Engineers to perform tasks within the mill. Role is defined by the following:

• Initial Training
• Goal is to learn about and provide CAD drafting services, document management support, as required under the supervision of the Lead Project Engineer and/or Lead Designer.
• Duties
• Computer Aided Drafting - Provide layout and detailed drawings for Electrical, Instrumentation, and general engineering design.
• Document Management Support - Distribution, filing and maintenance of all drawings and associated documents.
• Complete all company safety training.
• After completing initial training, the student will be assigned an Engineer to work with.
• Assist engineer in planning and implementing projects to improve production efficiency.
• Assist others with special projects and presentations when requested.
• Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Microsoft Word and Excel experience required.
• Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, Microsoft FrontPage, Autodesk ACAD, and Autodesk Inventor is desirable.
• Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with other people in a respectful, consistent and fair manner.
• Good organizing, planning and coordinating abilities.
• Creativity in creating new methods of displaying and presenting documentation in the forms of drawings, pictures, text and combinations of all of these.
• Must have a valid driver's license with a demonstrated safe driving record.

Salary is determined by a number of factors including the value of the job to the organization, market forces, internal equity and skills brought to the job.

Students interested should have completed a minimum of 2 years in an accredited engineering program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
