Job summary

Axiom Consultants, a Ruekert & Mielke company, is seeking an Electrical Engineer Student Intern to join our team in Iowa City for the summer. This is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working alongside industry professionals on impactful projects.

You'll assist with electrical design, drafting, and project development across commercial, residential, and institutional projects, with mentorship and growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Strong technical aptitude with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team setting.
• Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical design and drafting for diverse project types including sizing of electrical services, transformers, switchboards, and distribution systems.
• Perform load calculations and equipment sizing; coordinate utility service requirements.
• Design standby and emergency power systems; lighting design including photometrics and lighting control systems.
• Low-voltage and technology system design including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection and wired/wireless networks.
• Support the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates; perform data analysis and calculations under supervision.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and architects to deliver solutions; participate in team meetings and client communication.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations; Construction Administration and site visits.
