Job description

You will be an Electrical Engineer on the SantaBarbara Focal‑Plane Camera Electronics Design team. Our group advances state‑of‑the‑art infrared camera products that are built around LockheedMartin’s custom IR imaging sensors. You’ll design the printed circuit boards that power, process, and transmit the data from these sensors to defense and commercial platforms.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Electrical Engineer you will own the end‑to‑end design of high‑performance camera electronics, from concept and requirements capture through schematic capture, layout, prototyping, and test. You’ll work side‑by‑side with mechanical designers, systems engineers, and test teams to deliver low‑noise, high‑speed, rugged PCB solutions that meet strict SWAP, temperature, and reliability constraints.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Developing and laying out PCBs that incorporate low‑noise power supplies, high‑speed serial links (CML, LVDS, CoaXpress, CameraLink, GigEVision, 10/40/100Gb Ethernet, fiber optics), and image‑processing blocks.
  • Designing and integrating FPGA‑based logic (Xilinx Vivado, Verilog) and embedded processors (MicroBlaze, Zynq) for I²C/SPI interfaces, DDR memory controllers, high‑speed transceivers, and sensor command/control.
  • Creating schematic and layout packages for flex cables and wiring harnesses that meet SWaP, military‑grade temperature, and cryogenic requirements.
  • Performing analog and digital circuit simulation and analysis to verify noise, signal integrity, and power‑distribution performance.
  • Developing automated built‑in‑test, health‑monitoring, and temperature‑control circuitry for manufacturing, lab, and flight applications.
  • Collaborating with mechanical design engineers to ensure electrical packaging and enclosure constraints are satisfied.
  • Generating test plans, executing board‑level verification, troubleshooting hardware issues, and documenting results in PLM tools.
  • Supporting sensor‑system design by providing clear electrical specifications and participating in cross‑functional reviews.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and fostering an inclusive, knowledge‑sharing environment.
