Job description

We’re hiring an Electrical Engineer for a VC backed start up working on a novel space system focused on high-power, dynamic hardware operating in extreme environments. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll take concepts from early design through to fully functional prototypes, contributing to technology being developed with real in‑orbit deployment in mind.

You’ll be working on systems where precision control, power delivery, and mechanical interaction all come together - ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex, multidisciplinary challenges and seeing their designs come to life in hardware.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take ownership of key electrical design elements across an evolving prototype, helping push the system closer to a flight‑ready configuration with each iteration.

Your responsibilities will span:

  • Developing and refining electrical architectures for a high-energy, motion‑driven space system
  • Designing circuits and producing detailed schematics, with careful component selection aligned to demanding operating conditions
  • Supporting the build and evolution of prototypes, improving robustness, efficiency, and repeatability over time
  • Working closely with mechanical and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical systems into tightly coupled hardware assemblies

A large part of the role will be hands‑on. You’ll:

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot hardware, iterating quickly to resolve issues and improve performance
  • Contribute to PCB development, including coordination with external partners for fabrication and assembly
  • Apply practical engineering principles such as tolerancing, design‑for‑manufacture, and design‑for‑test

You’ll also play a role in the broader engineering effort - contributing to design reviews, system‑level decisions, and ensuring the electrical subsystem aligns with overall mission goals.

Documentation will be key, including maintaining schematics, BOMs, interface definitions, and test procedures.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring a strong grounding in electrical engineering along with experience working on real, physical systems - ideally in environments where performance and reliability matter.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM discipline
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on experience developing and testing electrical systems or prototypes
  • Strong circuit design and schematic capture skills
  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g. Altium or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and iterate on hardware

Experience with motor control is highly relevant, especially:

  • Three‑phase systems and field‑oriented control for bidirectional drives

You should also be comfortable working cross‑functionally, communicating clearly, and managing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Nice to Have

Experience in space, aerospace, defence, robotics, or other high-performance hardware environments would be a strong plus.

Additionally, exposure to the following would be beneficial:

  • High-power electronics or systems involving rapid energy transfer
  • DFM, DFT, and tolerance analysis
  • Embedded systems, microcontrollers, and sensor integration
  • Environmental or functional testing of hardware
  • Hands‑on lab experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and logic analysers
Additional requirements
  • Must meet applicable export control regulations (e.g. U.S. person status)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
