Job summary

KAD Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team for transportation, municipal, and infrastructure projects across Illinois. Location: Chicagoland and surrounding regions

Position Summary

KAD Engineering is seeking a motivated and collaborative Electrical Engineer to join our growing multidisciplinary engineering team. As KAD continues expanding beyond transportation-focused civil engineering, this position will play an important role in developing the firm's electrical engineering capabilities while supporting a wide variety of transportation, municipal, infrastructure, and facility improvement projects throughout Illinois.

The Electrical Engineer will work closely with civil, mechanical, and construction management professionals to deliver innovative, high-quality engineering solutions for public agencies, municipalities, private-sector clients, and engineering partners.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects while helping shape the future growth of KAD Engineering's Electrical Engineering practice.

  • Prepare electrical engineering designs from concept through final construction documents.
  • Design roadway lighting systems, electrical power distribution systems, traffic signal systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and facility electrical systems as assigned.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including:
    • Electrical load calculations
    • Photometric lighting analysis
    • Short circuit and fault current analysis
  • Develop plans, specifications, engineer's estimates, and bid documents.
  • Prepare engineering reports and technical memorandums.

Project Delivery :

  • Coordinate electrical engineering design with civil, mechanical, structural, and construction management teams.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, utility companies, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate utility relocations and electrical service requirements.
  • Support project managers in maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Assist with proposal development and technical scope preparation.

Field Services :

  • Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and internal disciplines to support multi-faceted transportation projects.
  • Assist with agency coordination and responses to review comments.
  • Support client interactions as needed under the direction of senior staff.

Technical Leadership :

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • IDOT Standards
    • Local agency requirements
    • Applicable building and electrical codes
  • Support quality control and quality assurance reviews.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Experience preparing engineering plans and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • Electrical power systems
    • Roadway lighting
    • Traffic signal systems
    • Utility coordination
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with IDOT and/or Illinois Tollway projects.
  • Experience with roadway lighting and transportation infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Experience with Bentley OpenRoads, MicroStation, ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and/or Revit. (The source documents reference Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit as relevant design tools.)
  • Experience using lighting analysis software such as AGi32.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.
