Job summary

Maverick Power in Plano, TX is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer in Research and Development to drive design, development, and testing of LV/MV power system solutions. The role requires hands-on experience with LV up to 1kV and MV up to 38kV, and a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles.

You will work with cross-functional teams to advance next-generation energy technologies, ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D or design of LV/MV power systems.
  • SolidWorks Electrical experience.
  • Experience with transformers, switchgear, and power distribution components.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, UL, NEC standards.
  • Proficient in CAD tools for wiring schematics and panel layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Development: design, simulate, and develop electrical systems for LV (up to 1kV) and MV (1kV–38kV) applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Prototyping and Testing: build and test prototypes of power system components to validate performance and reliability.
  • Research and Innovation: investigate new technologies to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability of LV/MV power systems.
  • Collaboration: work with mechanical, software, and product teams to integrate electrical systems into broader designs.
  • Documentation: prepare technical reports and design specifications for development, regulatory approvals, and IP filings.
  • Standards and Compliance: ensure designs meet safety and regulatory requirements (NEC, NEMA, OSHA).
  • Troubleshooting: diagnose and resolve issues during development, testing, and field deployment.

About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated R&D Electrical Engineer with expertise in low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) power systems to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will drive the design, development, and testing of innovative power system solutions, contributing to the advancement of next-generation energy technologies. This role requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, hands‑on experience with LV/MV systems, and a passion for research and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Design, simulate, and develop electrical systems and components for low voltage (up to 1kV) and medium voltage (1kV–38kV) applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, UL).
  • Prototyping and Testing: Build and test prototypes of power system components, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and control systems, to validate performance and reliability.
  • Research and Innovation: Conduct research to explore new technologies, materials, and methodologies to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability of LV/MV power systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software engineers, and product managers, to integrate electrical systems into broader product designs.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and documentation to support product development, regulatory approvals, and intellectual property filings.
  • Standards and Compliance: Ensure all designs and processes adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, including NEC, NEMA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues in power systems during development, testing, and field implementation phases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or minimum of 8 years of qualified work experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D or design of low voltage and/or medium voltage power systems.
  • Strong background in control system design using SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Proven track record in designing and testing electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, or power distribution systems.
  • Experience with power electronics, protection systems, and control systems is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of power system components, including circuit breakers, relays, and busbars.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, UL, NEC).
  • Proficient in using CAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical) for wiring schematics and panel layout design.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration (e.g., solar, wind, energy storage, microgrids) into LV/MV systems.
  • Familiarity with smart grid technologies or IoT applications in power systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings.
