Job summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Power) to lead electrical design on industrial and power generation projects. You will coordinate with architects, clients, and vendors, deliver design packages, and support business development while traveling to project sites as needed.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5–15 years of experience, proficiency with Revit and ETAP/SKM, and strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple schedules.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering required with 5–15 years in industrial and power generation design.
  • Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Experience with Revit and power systems coordination, arc flash, grounding.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical design packages from concept to IFC for power generation and distribution.
  • Route conduit and cable trays for high-density power applications; review vendor drawings.
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and contractors; lead design on multiple projects.
  • Support Business Development and identify prospective markets and clients.
  • Plan, organize, and manage schedules; travel to project sites as needed.

Senior Electrical Engineer (Power)

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will be an Electrical Engineer competent and confident, especially with experience in the power generation and distribution industry. They will serve as a Design Lead on multiple projects, collaborating internally and externally to deliver projects that meet the owners’ objectives. The role also involves supporting Business Development, soliciting and securing new work, implementing team goals, and identifying prospective markets and clients.

General Duties
  • Develop electrical design packages from conceptual to IFC level for power generation and distribution, specifying protective devices, relays, instruments, transformers, breakers, alternators, grounding components, and power/control wiring.
  • Understand design limitations and route conduit, cable tray, trench duct for high‑density power applications.
  • Coordinate with vendor packagers to develop cost‑effective, timely design solutions for technical applications.
  • Noted experience with ETAP or SKM; understanding systems coordination, arc flash, grounding, and Neher‑McGrath.
  • Implement one‑lines, three‑lines, breaker control diagrams, power plans, and system plans.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEMA, NFPA standards for renewables, harmonics, generation, energy storage, hazardous area, and industrial systems.
  • Read, understand, and review vendor shop drawings for GIS switchgear, substation transformers, DCU/PLC enclosures, microgrid controllers, and complete generation systems.
  • Communicate effectively with architects, owners, and contractors.
  • Work independently and as part of a strong team.
  • Exhibit excellent organization and time‑management skills.
Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5‑15 years of experience designing complex electrical systems in industrial and power generation sectors.
  • Registered Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills essential for team‑based projects.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required for simultaneous project schedules.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Willing to travel.
