Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Mission Critical Facilities Engineer to join their team in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for developing system designs, coordinating with project teams, and guiding designers. Responsibilities

  • Develop basic system designs within own discipline.

Your Opportunity

The MCF (Mission Critical Facilities) Engineer performs technical duties under the supervision of a Senior Project Engineer or Project Engineer. The role involves understanding and identifying project requirements and performing independent technical work within one’s own discipline. It provides guidance to Designers on completion of duties. The data center industry is continually evolving, and this is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy working on technically challenging projects that require cutting‑edge designs. Aside from the preferred locations listed, this position is open to any location with a Stantec office presence, for the right candidate.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Develop basic system designs within own discipline under supervision of a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer; this includes the ability to offer solutions to general technical problems.
  • Delegate tasks to project designers as appropriate.
  • Work in conjunction with the project team to prepare project deliverables per the client’s intent and scope of work outlined in the proposal.
  • Coordinate well with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design.
  • Follow quality management process; review project deliverables prior to submission to QA/AC reviewer.
  • Assist with reviews of shop drawings and submittals, RFI responses, site observation reports and punch lists, attend project coordination meetings, and perform other CA tasks.
  • Actively participate in the engineering/Professional community to build personal knowledge and professional growth (e.g. attend meetings/seminars/conferences).
  • Assist the Project Engineer on project related tasks.
  • Meet or exceed utilization goals and adhere to project budget.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Possess basic knowledge of engineering practices within own discipline.
  • Knowledge of commonly used and accepted design and construction concepts, practices, procedures.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and specifications, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Proficient in applicable software (i.e. AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Working knowledge or proficiency in power systems software (e.g. SKM) and power cable ampacity calculation software (e.g. CYME CYMCAP) preferred.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills to confidently interact and communicate scope and coordinate tasks with vendors and inter‑discipline co‑workers.
  • Display effective organization and time management skills with projects, reports and other duties; effectively manage multiple priorities and be punctual and dependable.
Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years related industry experience preferred.
  • Registered professional engineer (PE), Fundamentals of engineering (FE) / engineer in training (EIT) or other professional certification based on area of expertise preferred.
  • Datacenter experience preferred.

Pay Range
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas: $85,000.00 – $123,300.00 annually.
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas: $91,200.00 – $132,300.00 annually.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed‑upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law). Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law. The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
