Job description

Electrical Engineer – Manufacturing & Controls

Manufacturing / Plant Operations

The Opportunity

If you're an Electrical Engineer who would rather be on the plant floor solving real equipment problems than sitting behind a desk all day, this is the kind of role where you can make an immediate impact.

We're looking for a hands-on engineer to become a technical go-to for a large-scale manufacturing operation in Alcoa, TN. You'll take ownership of complex production equipment, troubleshoot PLCs and electrical controls, dig into recurring failures, and develop engineering solutions that improve reliability, performance, and uptime.

This isn't just about putting out fires. You'll have the opportunity to identify why equipment is failing, engineer the long-term fix, improve preventive maintenance strategies, and lead major equipment rebuilds and upgrades from concept through implementation.

You'll work alongside maintenance, operations, and other engineers in an environment where strong troubleshooting skills, curiosity, and the ability to take ownership matter.

What You'll Do
  • Provide electrical engineering support to manufacturing operations and maintenance teams.
  • Troubleshoot production equipment and process problems to root cause and implement engineered solutions.
  • Restore production flow during equipment breakdowns and support off-shift troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Develop preventive maintenance and equipment reliability improvements.
  • Support PLC-controlled equipment, electrical controls, automation systems, motors, and drives.
  • Manage major equipment rebuilds from development and business justification through implementation.
  • Analyze equipment and process data to identify performance and reliability improvements.
  • Develop deep technical expertise in departmental equipment and provide technical leadership.
  • Partner cross-functionally with maintenance, operations, quality, safety, and engineering.
  • Support departmental quality, safety, and environmental objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 2+ years of professional Electrical Engineering experience.
  • 1+ year of experience working with manufacturing processes and principles.
  • Strong equipment troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
Highly Preferred Experience
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ladder Logic.
  • Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs.
  • AC and DC motor drives and drive systems.
  • Industrial electrical controls and automation.
  • Industrial networking and automation communications.
  • Electrical power distribution systems.
  • Equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Data acquisition systems and manufacturing data analytics.
  • Capital equipment projects and large equipment rebuilds.
  • Heavy manufacturing, metals, aluminum, steel, rolling mills, furnaces, casting, shears, strip processing, or coiling equipment.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and equipment reliability experience.

This position may require less than 10% travel and provides occasional after-hours/on-call support, including weekends, off-shifts, and holidays.

If you're an Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving real manufacturing problems, working directly with industrial equipment, and taking ownership of equipment performance and reliability, we'd like to hear from you.
