Job summary

Amrize is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 at the Alpena Cement Plant in Alpena, MI. This 10-week, paid internship begins June 1, 2027, onsite with a 40-hour week.

You will gain hands-on experience in cement production, design and maintain electrical systems, and work with PLCs/SCADA under the guidance of seasoned engineers. Ideal candidates are enrolled in an EE undergrad program, show strong academics, and are eager to learn, travel between sites, and contribute to safety

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • High energy and a proactive approach to tackling new challenges.
  • A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment within the cement plant.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of electrical issues, including motors and control systems.
  • Participate in the development and execution of preventive maintenance plans for electrical systems.
  • Work with automation systems and control panels, including PLCs and SCADA, to monitor plant processes.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring safety protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team to achieve goals and present learnings at internship end.
  • Present learnings and contributions to executive leadership team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 who is passionate about sustainability, driven by curiosity and keen to grow, learn, develop and thrive in our high-performance culture. This opportunity will be a 10-week, paid internship beginning June 1, 2027.

This internship will be based at our cement plant in Alpena, MI.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

As an Electrical Engineer Intern at our cement plant, you will gain valuable, hands‑on experience in cement production and work closely with our team of experienced engineers and professionals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Electrical System Support: Assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment within the cement plant.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Support the troubleshooting and repair of electrical issues, including motors, control systems, and other electrical components.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Participate in the development and execution of preventive maintenance plans for electrical systems to ensure reliable plant operations.
  • Automation and Control: Work with automation systems and control panels, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, to monitor and control plant processes.
  • Safety Protocols: Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Skill Application: Utilize a range of skills and knowledge in day‑to‑day operations, working collaboratively to achieve team and company goals.
  • Executive Presentation: At the end of your internship, you'll present your learnings and contributions to our executive leadership team.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT
  • Work Schedule: This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day.
  • Work Environment: You will be working in a cement manufacturing and production environment, which includes exposure to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and various weather conditions.
  • Transportation: You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Travel Requirements: You may need to travel for site tours, shadowing experiences, or intern events throughout the duration of your internship.
