Job summary

Skydio is seeking Electrical Engineering Interns to prototype, validate, and refine electrical systems for autonomous flying sensors. You will work on state-of-the-art computing hardware, sensing, and power systems with world-class engineers.

You will take ownership of hardware development, perform bring-up, and collaborate across mechanical, firmware, reliability, software, and electrical teams to deliver reliable test systems. FAA 107 readiness may be required within 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Solid grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Familiar with basic EE lab tools (oscilloscope, signal generators, etc.).
  • Familiar with scripting/programming in Python/C.
  • Some experience with power electronics, digital/analog electronics.
  • Previous internship work on electronic products.
  • Familiar with Cadence Allegro.
  • Ability to quickly prototype solutions and circuit demonstrations.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • FAA Part 107 certification within 30 days of engagement start, if required.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of low-voltage electronic hardware development, including specification, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, and fabrication.
  • Perform hands-on bring-up, assembly, and debugging of custom circuit boards for testing and validation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, reliability, software, and electrical teams to build reliable test and validation systems for new products.
  • Develop and test PCBAs for subsystems such as power distribution, battery management, sensing, motor control, and computing.
  • Participate in schematic, layout, and BOM reviews, providing feedback on designs.
  • Support system integration and test activities through test execution, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.

About The Role

We are seeking interns for our EE Team! We are looking for Electrical Engineering Interns who will help prototype, validate, develop, and refine the electrical systems that bring together state-of-the-art computing hardware, sensing, and power systems in the latest autonomous flying sensors. As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, you will be helping solve tough challenges alongside a team of world-class engineers.

What Makes You a Good Fit
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field)
  • Solid grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Familiar with basic EE lab tools (oscilloscope, signal generators, etc.)
  • Familiar with scripting/programming in Python/C
  • Some experience with power electronics (motor driver, switch mode power supplies...), digital electronics (MCU, FPGA, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C...), and/or analog electronics (filters, ADC/DAC...)
  • Previous internship work on electronic products
  • Familiar with an EDA software suite, preferably Cadence Allegro
  • Ability to quickly prototype solutions and circuit demonstrations
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 certification within 30 days of engagement start, if required

Compensation Range: The hourly rate for this position is $47/hr for Undergrad, $53/hr for Graduate students, and $58/hr for PhD students*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Interns are eligible to receive the following benefits: Paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay and 401K savings plan. This position and all associated benefits are subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as the Company’s policies and eligibility criteria.
