Job summary

Motion Recruitment is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to design and develop next-generation automation systems, robotics, and electromechanical equipment. You will build complete control panels, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing packages while selecting components and enabling hardware validation.

You will collaborate with mechanical, software, firmware, quality, and manufacturing teams, travel to customer sites as needed, and contribute to ECO/PLM processes to ensure successful product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years designing electrical systems for industrial automation or electromechanical products.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, BOMs, and assembly docs.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage systems and power distribution up to 480 VAC.
  • Experience selecting components like breakers, contactors, power supplies, and motors.

Responsibilities

  • Design complete electrical systems and control panels for advanced automation equipment.
  • Develop schematics, diagrams, panel layouts, wiring docs, and manufacturing packages.
  • Select and size components for machine control systems.
  • Design harnesses and interconnects for complex assemblies.
  • Develop validation plans, test fixtures, and verification procedures.
  • Configure PLC/HMI software and support integration across systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, firmware, quality, and manufacturing teams.
  • Provide technical support to vendors and field service teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and ECO/PLM processes.
  • Identify root causes and drive corrective actions and improvements.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience designing electrical systems for industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing equipment, or electromechanical products.
  • Experience designing industrial control panels from concept through production.
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and industrial power distribution up to 480 VAC.
  • Experience creating:

    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Assembly documentation
  • Experience selecting and specifying electrical components including:
    • Circuit breakers
    • Contactors
    • Power supplies

    • Motor drives
    • Terminal blocks
    • Switches
  • Experience designing custom wiring harnesses and electrical interconnects.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical controls, automation systems, sensors, PLCs, and motion control.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, vendors, and production teams through product release.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as project needs require.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience developing industrial automation equipment, robotics, semiconductor equipment, or medical device manufacturing systems.
  • PLC and HMI programming experience using Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including:
    • EtherCAT
    • EtherNet/IP
    • Modbus
    • CANopen
  • Proficiency with electrical design software including:
    • EPLAN Electric P8
    • AutoCAD Electrical
    • SolidWorks Electrical
  • Experience designing automated test fixtures and hardware validation systems.
  • Background with servo motors, stepper motors, BLDC motors, encoders, and motion controllers.
  • Familiarity with embedded electronics, PCB design, or schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for automation and test development.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including:
    • NFPA 79
    • NEC
    • IEC/EN 60204-1
    • ISO 12100
    • ISO 13849-1
    • UL 508A
    • CE and TÜV compliance
What You Will Be Doing
  • Design complete industrial control panels and electrical systems for advanced automation equipment.
  • Develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring documentation, and manufacturing packages.
  • Select and size electrical components for machine control systems and industrial equipment.
  • Design electrical harnesses, interconnects, and custom control assemblies.
  • Develop hardware validation plans, automated test fixtures, and electrical verification procedures.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support PLC and HMI software for machine automation systems.
  • Support electrical integration activities across robotics, automation, and electromechanical products.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, firmware, quality, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, vendors, and field service organizations.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance activities.
  • Manage engineering documentation through ECO and PLM processes.
  • Identify root causes of electrical and controls issues while driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
