At HNTB, you can create a meaningful career while building communities that matter to all of us. We are seeking a design engineer to join our Electrical Section in Kansas City. This role offers exciting opportunities to design electrical systems for highway, municipal, bridge, transit, and airport projects.

This position involves handling the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications. You will work closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery, applying engineering techniques and design criteria for projects of various sizes and complexities.

You will develop conceptual and detailed designs using current drawing and technical tools, mentor junior staff, and contribute to project delivery. Responsibilities include:

  • Completing assigned work within schedule and hours
  • Developing project specifications and discipline-specific engineering elements
  • Providing technical guidance and quality control
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 4 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree with 3 years, or
  • PhD with 2 years

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Experience in electrical design for civil transportation projects
  • Designing low voltage power systems, street lighting, traffic signals, and electrical systems for movable bridges
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and lighting software like AGI32
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is a plus

Locations include Des Moines, IA; Kansas City, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Overland Park, KS; St. Louis, MO. Visa sponsorship is not available.
