About this position

Electrical Engineer – San Diego, CA – Department: Engineering – Full-time – Direct hire

Summary

The Electrical Engineer will work closely with mechanical engineers, designers, procurement personnel, the manufacturing department, suppliers, and the sales team to develop, improve, and maintain products supporting the subsea industry. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting electronics related to motion control, applying engineering principles to products such as underwater propulsion systems, electric rotary and linear actuators, electro‑hydraulic systems, and power transmission systems. This is a customer‑facing role that includes participation in daily management meetings and customer interactions as required.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement electrical systems for subsea equipment, including thruster motors, actuators, and sensors.
  • Design and develop brushless motor drivers and supporting circuitry.
  • Support the implementation of subsea‑rated electromechanical devices, including rotary and linear actuators, hydraulic pumps, propulsion thrusters, and related assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to develop specifications, analyses, and testing procedures.
  • Improve existing designs to enhance performance, reduce costs, and increase manufacturability.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, bill of materials (BOM) creation, and prototype testing.
  • Supervise and support electromechanical technicians during circuit board assembly and product integration.
  • Develop detailed technical assembly and wiring documentation.
  • Participate in or lead customer technical discussions, design reviews, and project updates.
  • Serve as Project Engineer on custom projects to ensure timely delivery, budget compliance, and technical success.
  • Lead design review meetings and complete DFMEA/PFMEA documentation as required.
  • Support manufacturing during assembly and testing of new and existing products.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers, with occasional travel as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
  • Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture (preferred but not required).
  • Strong knowledge of three‑phase AC/DC motors and motor control techniques, preferably brushless motors.
  • Experience with electromechanical power conversion, precision actuation, electric motors, and motor drive electronics.
  • Understanding of microcontroller circuit design and embedded software.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems, including PWM, ADCs, DACs, and serial communication interfaces.
  • Experience with power stage design, including gate drive circuits, IGBTs, and MOSFETs.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, BOM creation, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and product lifecycle management.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Hands‑on experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, load cells, serial communication tools, and PCB testing equipment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in a small business environment.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements

Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, use hands, speak, and hear.
Ability to sit for extended periods while using standard office equipment.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
Good close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision with the ability to adjust focus.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Compensation
