Job summary

Elcora Engineering Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to design, analyze, and implement electrical systems for utility and industrial projects. The role focuses on calculation, planning, and ensuring compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, and client requirements.

This remote position requires travel to client sites as needed. With 3–6 years of experience, you will collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and drafters to deliver accurate designs and supporting documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • Engineer in Training (FE Passed) or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with travel to client sites.
  • 3–6 years in electrical design, preferably utility sector.
  • Familiarity with engineering software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review electrical systems for utility/industrial projects.
  • Perform load calculations, fault current analyses and equipment sizing.
  • Lead designs for distribution systems (4-69kV) and prepare field notes and specs.
  • Collaborate with PMs, engineers and drafters to meet client requirements.
  • Review vendor submittals and support testing/commissioning activities.

Job description

As an Electrical Engineer II, you will play an essential role in supporting engineering projects from inception to completion. The Electrical Engineer II will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and implementing electrical systems for utility and industrial projects. This role requires an intermediate level of engineering knowledge, project experience, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The individual will perform technical calculations, develop detailed plans, and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.

Location: Remote (Candidates must be based in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Missouri, or Iowa)

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Analysis
  • Prepare and review electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams and wiring schematics.
  • Conduct load calculations, fault current analyses, and equipment sizing.
  • Lead and execute designs for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4-69kV), including field notes, drawings, specifications, and calculations for Senior Engineer review.
  • Safely perform field walk-downs to document existing conditions and develop material and labor specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements, including NEC, IEEE, NESC, and utility specifications.
Project Execution & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and drafters to ensure deliverables meet client requirements.
  • Assist with project scheduling and resource planning.
  • Provide technical input during project meetings and site visits.
  • Review and interpret vendor and contractor submittals for compliance with project specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during design and construction phases.
  • Provide technical support for system upgrades, testing, and commissioning activities.
Documentation & Quality Assurance
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Maintain accurate records of designs, revisions, and project correspondence.
  • Collaborate on quality assurance processes to ensure project accuracy and adherence to engineering standards and client expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or a closely related field.
  • Engineer in Training (FE Passed).
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to travel to client job sites.
  • 3-6 years of experience in electrical design, preferably within the utility sector.
  • Familiarity with engineering software and tools relevant to the discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work successfully in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in all aspects of work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or actively working toward licensure.
  • Advanced knowledge of power distribution, substations, or utility systems.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software such as AutoCAD, GIS tools, pole loading analysis software, and related utility design applications.
