Job summary

Socket.dev seeks an experienced electrical engineering professional to lead the engineering and design for construction drawings and package deliverables for petrochemical and utility projects in a tight-knit team.

You will assist with project scoping, process safety analyses, and clear communication of engineering requirements to design staff, coordinating across disciplines and ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related technical field with relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee engineering and design efforts for construction drawings/packages for projects.
  • Assist in definition of project work scopes for engineering requirements, including package deliverables.
  • Perform Process Safety Management/Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Describe project requirements with sketches and verbal instructions for design staff.
  • Coordinate and organize work across disciplines; maintain good relationships.
  • Check drawing packages for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform calculations; verify calculations for code compliance.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and interact with vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to Safety “IBiZ NOW”
  • Maintains Rockwell AOP, EDS & Firmware Files
  • Serves as an electrical SME resource to all departments in the mill
  • Develops electrical project schedules and budgets
  • Maintains Client's specifications
  • Works with electrical department to create new equipment PMs
  • Analyze and troubleshoot electrical control system
  • Designs, coordinates, and commissions electrical projects
  • Mentors, trains and provides technical assistance to plant electricians
  • Maintains electrical drawings and documentation
  • Works with vendors to stay current on the latest technologies
  • Manage capital electrical projects and contractors
  • Maintains plant arc flash studies and documentation
Job Experience:
Required skills, experience, and/or education:
  • AC and DC power and control circuits
  • Low Voltage motor control circuits.
  • 3-phase 15KV and 480V switchgear
  • Allen-Bradley programmable logic controls (PLCs) and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Allen Bradley Servos and Servo Drives
  • NFPA70E arc flash requirements
  • AutoCAD
  • Short circuit studies
  • Protective device coordination
  • Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)

Requirements
Summary of Description:

Develop and oversee the engineering and design efforts for construction drawings / packages for projects.

Duties:
  • Assist in the definition of project work scopes for engineering requirements, including package deliverable requirements.
  • Assist with Process Safety Management/Process Hazard Analysis
  • Concisely describing the project requirements by means of engineering sketches and verbal instructions to the design staff. Presenting this work to the design personnel in an organized form suitable for design by the available personnel.
  • Coordinating and organizing work with other disciplines. Maintaining good working relationships between disciplines.
  • Checking drawing packages for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performing calculations required for their discipline. The ability to check calculations of other engineers for completeness, code compliance and accuracy.
  • Equipment Specifications and Vendor interaction.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in a related technical field from an accredited university with at least three (3) years of experience in petrochemical, chemical, offshore, pipeline or utility industries; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

License Requirements:
  • Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement
  • Professional Engineer Intern with professional registration preferred
Specific Skills:
  • Knowledge of discipline design codes and other industry standard discipline related regulatory codes expected.
  • AutoCAD knowledge with 2 years minimum experience preferred.
  • Process Safety Management/Process Hazard Analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook or similar software with preference on spreadsheets, data base and word processing.
  • Familiar with discipline specific compute applications (i.e., ETAP, STAAD, CEASAR, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
