Job summary

Canon Virginia, Inc. in Newport News, VA is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Regional Technical Headquarters for the Americas. You will troubleshoot electrical systems, execute full-cycle hardware testing, design test hardware, and document results to drive improvements.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and 2–5 years of R&D or medical-related experience, with proficiency in Altium, LTspice, Python, C/C++, and soldering. Hybrid work 4 days in office, 1 from home.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 2–5 years in R&D, medical or related field.
• Proficient in MS Office and/or Google Workspace.
• Ability to create and present presentations and technical papers to management.
• Fluent in electronic CAD/CAM (Altium) with simulation (LTspice) and schematic/layout.
• Knowledge of embedded systems with hardware/software tools; STM32 a plus.
• Proficient in Python, C, C++ on Windows and Linux; able to debug and trace code.
• Soldering for prototype assembly/rework.
• Analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot electrical systems with test equipment to determine root cause or verify function.
• Execute hardware testing; write test plans, process tests, generate reports, document improvements.
• Analyze test data to judge prototype efficiency and reliability; inform PCB/layout decisions.
• Design and develop test hardware/fixturing, including PCBs and development kits.
• Perform design reviews and validate PCBs before unit assembly.
• Generate new concepts/designs and proof of concept work.
• Review technical reports for accuracy and consistency.
• Train less experienced engineers on processes and systems.
