Electrical Engineer II (Hybrid - La Crosse, WI)

Please note: This position is open only to U.S. citizens.

Hiring Salary Range for Level II: $86,900 - $130,400

Compensation is based on education, experience, and certifications. The actual offer will reflect the candidate’s unique skills and background.

Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for designing, specifying, evaluating, and coordinating the installation of protective relaying, metering, control schemes, circuit breakers, transformers, and related equipment to ensure a properly designed transmission and substation network. The role involves problem resolution, regulatory compliance, and technical support to other departments and member cooperatives.

The Impact You'll Make

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Design and engineer relay protection and control schemes for transmission lines, transformers, and other devices, including creating one-line diagrams and wiring schematics.
  2. Set protective relays, perform fault analysis, and coordinate protective functions.
  3. Engineer metering systems for substations and interconnections with power suppliers and municipal systems.
  4. Maintain and update DPC’s fault model, perform studies, and provide data to utilities and cooperatives.
  5. Monitor system equipment condition, analyze loading, ratings, protection coordination, and system parameters to optimize operation.
  6. Ensure compliance with policies, standards, and codes such as ANSI, IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NERC.
  7. Provide technical guidance to various departments, including on-site support during testing and troubleshooting.
  8. Prepare equipment specifications, purchase requisitions, and perform life cycle cost analyses.
  9. Manage substation grounding activities, including design and review of ground grids, and apply surge protection standards.
  10. Assist with technical issues for member cooperatives, including voltage regulation and transformer loading.
  11. Develop operating procedures for substations and electrical equipment.
  12. Support scheduling, budgeting, and project management activities.
  13. Conduct engineering studies on power quality, safety, and related topics.
  14. Represent Dairyland on technical committees and provide guidance to junior engineers and interns.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems preferred.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in power systems, relaying, metering, or related fields; utility experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of AC three-phase systems, protective relaying, and computer-aided drafting.
  • Active Professional Engineer registration or Engineer-in-Training status pursuing registration; valid driver’s license.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Ability to work indoors and outdoors, traverse uneven terrain, and operate various tools and equipment, including during outdoor conditions and near electrical hazards.

Additional Requirements: Effective communication skills, team collaboration, and willingness to travel within the system and for conferences.
