Job summary

CenterPoint Energy is seeking an electrical engineer to provide technical support for constructing and operating the electric distribution system. You will directly support assigned service centers and disseminate standards to customers.

Responsibilities include analyzing circuit loading, performing engineering studies, and generating reports. Field inspections and collaboration with cross-functional teams are required to improve reliability and identify solutions.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a minimum of two years electric utility or power engineering experience with engineering calculations and design.
  • Ability to use math (trig, calculus) to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Ability to interpret and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers and others in writing and verbally.

  • Analyze circuit loading using historic data and recommend reliability improvements.

Job Summary

Provide technical support for constructing and operating CenterPoint Energy's electric distribution system. Directly support assigned service centers.

Essential Functions
  • Disseminate information of CNP standards & specifications and provide technical assistance to the service centers and customers.
  • Uses historic data to analyze circuit loading, identify operating issues and make reliability and operational recommendations for the distribution system.
  • Utilize engineering tools to identify potential reliability issues, equipment failures, report findings and form recommendations for solutions.
  • Utilize software to perform engineering studies.
  • Gathers information and compiles data from multiple sources (SAP, GIS, Key Accounts, Service Centers) to construct electrical models or perform other analysis.
  • Identify unbalanced circuits and notify S/C personnel to take corrective action.
  • Aid other engineering groups with investigations of voltage issues/complaints.
  • Support service center investigation in circuit reliability.
  • Develop standards on reliability practices and investigations.
  • Generate various engineering reports.
  • Analyze data and make recommendations to improve circuit performance.
  • Field inspections to identify operations issues that are causing reliability problems.
  • Various teams/task forces/special projects.
  • Performs engineering studies to analyze and respond to request, special studies, etc.
  • Work with equipment vendors to resolve material issues or identify new technologies and products.
  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks such as analyze system performance using monitoring equipment and other engineering tools to identify issues and develop solutions
Education Description

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience
  • Requires a minimum of two years electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and design.
  • Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
  • Able to use a computer equipment and software programs to provide project documentation, relay, settings, event analysis, equipment commissioning and management reports.
  • Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
  • Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
  • Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
  • Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.
  • Able to interpret and apply the National Electric and National Electric Safety Codes.
  • Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.
