Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks an Electrical Engineer to develop digital hardware for high-performance computing products used in commercial avionics platforms. The role is onsite and focuses on processing computers, network switches, and related hardware.

Responsibilities include circuit/board design, product recertification support, cost-savings, and field troubleshooting. Collaborate across teams to ensure performance, safety, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Previous or current experience in an Electrical Engineering role.

  • Designing circuit / board layout to support product lifecycle
  • Working through product recertification (TSO or PMA) driven by a minor/major changes
  • Extracting cost savings solutions to the overall standard cost of the product.
  • Supporting production to achieve on time delivery goals
  • Resolving product issues and technical inquiries from our OEM customers
  • Troubleshooting returned equipment from the field or OEM assembly line
  • Evaluating product part change notifications (obsolete parts, end of life parts, etc)
  • Evaluate designs for Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT)

The Computing Products Department in the Avionics business unit has an opening for an Electrical Engineer. This department is responsible for the development and sustainment of state-of-the-art avionics hardware products including integrated processing cabinets, video processing modules, network product, and control panels used in commercial and military aircraft platforms.

This position is for an Electrical Engineer to develop digital hardware used in high performance computing products such as Processing Computers and Network switch products for Commercial avionics platforms. This role is onsite, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In this role you will be involved in the development of digital hardware circuit boards for new products. Responsibilities will also include support of existing products including product recertification driven by minor or major changes, cost savings identification, troubleshooting equipment from the field or OEM assembly line and obsolescence management. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge avionics networking technologies that directly impact aircraft performance, safety, and reliability.

What You Will Do:
  • Designing circuit / board layout to support product lifecycle

What You Will Learn:
  • Airborne Electronic Hardware (including FPGA, CPLD, ASICs)
  • Embedded processing resources (PowerPC, Intel, and ARM)
  • Avionics interfaces (including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, I2C, SPI, Ethernet)
  • Video interfaces (including SMPTE, analog, DVI, DisplayPort).
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Previous or current experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with digital electronics design principles

  • Capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
