Job description

Timmons Group is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer II to join our Electrical Design Group’s Renewable Energy team in our Charlotte, NC office. Strong candidates from other locations will also be considered for remote work. This group focuses on power and renewable energy projects nationwide, including solar farms and battery storage. Due to immediate need, signing bonuses are offered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Support Project Managers and staff in designing power and renewable energy projects.
  2. Provide input to senior engineers based on calculations and engineering solutions.
  3. Assist in creating engineering proposals, including time, schedule, and cost estimates, and develop budgets.
  4. Design electrical systems for solar PV/BESS power projects from 1-500+ MW at medium voltage levels.
  5. Create construction drawings, including medium and low voltage systems, grounding, wiring diagrams, and site plans.
  6. Prepare calculations for PV electrical infrastructure, including equipment, conductors, and voltage considerations.
  7. Compile design documents and coordinate delivery to clients.
  8. Conduct QA/QC throughout design and construction phases.
  9. Evaluate electrical design inputs and provide technical engineering support.
  10. Design collection systems, including single line diagrams, layouts, communication diagrams, and cable schedules, adhering to industry standards.
  11. Ensure designs conform to State, NEC, and NESC codes.
Skills and Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  2. Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
  3. At least two years of electrical engineering experience.
  4. Experience in detailed design engineering or owner’s engineering for generating facilities and substations.
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  6. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and accountability.
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Legal eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  9. Preferred: Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer registration.
  10. Experience in PV collection design, power systems modeling, project management, and client interaction.
  11. Proficiency with ETAP or SKM, AutoCAD, and QA/QC processes.
