Job summary

Selectek in Florida seeks an Electrical Engineer II to design electrical concepts aligned with project vision, leveraging the consulting engineering process. The role emphasizes BIM coordination, code compliance, and strong client communication.

You will work on lighting, power distribution, emergency generation, fire alarm, and security systems, coordinating with architects and other disciplines across all design phases. Leadership and mentoring are encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years in electrical design for commercial buildings.
  • 2+ years coordinating multi-discipline teams.
  • Experience with design-build, fast-track methods.
  • Proficient in Revit MEP and other engineering software.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prepare project specifications and manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Define project scope and design electrical systems (lighting, power, emergency, fire alarm, security).
  • Develop cost-effective layouts, sizes, and specs; verify code compliance.
  • Prepare BIM drawings and coordinate with all disciplines through all phases.
  • Perform construction administration tasks including site observations and shop drawing reviews.
  • Maintain client relationships and manage scope variances to keep projects on track.
  • Mentor less experienced electrical designers; perform miscellaneous duties.

Job description

The Electrical Engineer II will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing electrical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents which are involved.

Responsibilities
  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the electrical system designs including lighting, power distribution, emergency generation systems, fire alarm, security, or other electrical systems.
  • Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designs.
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phase.
  • Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists.
  • Define appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents.
  • Proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track.
  • Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items.
  • Support with mentoring more inexperienced electrical designers.
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned.

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design of commercial buildings, preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities.
  • At least 2 years of experience coordinating with multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods.
  • Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form.
  • Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professional.
Preferred:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer in Training (EIT)
