Job summary

Wolf Engineering, LLC is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer III to lead substantial portions of discipline design from concept through construction. The role involves coordinating complex systems, delivering high‑quality engineering work with limited supervision, and communicating with project stakeholders.

The candidate will perform load calculations, design power distribution and lighting, develop diagrams and schedules, and guide junior staff while meeting project timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related ABET‑accredited program.
• Typically 6–9 years of relevant electrical building‑systems design or consulting experience.
• EIT required or strongly preferred; PE licensure preferred or active progress toward licensure expected.
• Demonstrated ability to lead substantial portions of discipline design and review junior staff work.
• Working knowledge of the NEC, building and energy codes, and common electrical design standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical load calculations, feeder and branch‑circuit sizing, voltage‑drop calculations, and equipment selections for the assigned level.
• Design and coordinate normal and emergency power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding/bonding, and electrical connections for building systems.
• Develop one‑line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting plans, power plans, details, schedules, and specifications communicating design intent.
• Coordinate electrical requirements with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, structural, civil, and specialty systems.
• Lead discipline design for small‑to‑midsize projects or major portions of larger projects with limited supervision.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and other disciplines to close open technical issues.
• Prepare or contribute to project narratives, specifications, estimates, studies, and construction‑administration responses.
• Review junior engineers' and designers' work for technical accuracy, coordination, and adherence to standards.

Description The Electrical Design Engineer III leads substantial portions of discipline design, coordinates complex systems, and independently delivers high-quality engineering work with limited supervision. This role is expected to anticipate issues, guide junior staff, communicate directly with project stakeholders, and contribute to reliable project execution from concept through construction.

• Perform and document electrical load calculations, feeder and branch-circuit sizing, voltage-drop calculations, and equipment selections appropriate to the assigned level.
• Design and coordinate normal and emergency power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding/bonding, and electrical connections for building systems.
• Develop one-line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting plans, power plans, details, schedules, and specifications that accurately communicate design intent.
• Coordinate electrical requirements with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, structural, civil, and specialty systems.
• Support short-circuit, selective-coordination, arc-flash, generator, UPS, and other specialized studies when included in project scope.
• Coordinate fire alarm, telecommunications, security, and other low-voltage systems when required by project scope, while clearly defining discipline boundaries.
• Lead discipline design for small-to-midsize projects or major portions of larger projects with limited technical supervision.
• Coordinate directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other disciplines and drive closure of open technical issues.
• Prepare or substantially contribute to project narratives, specifications, estimates, studies, and construction‑administration responses.
• Review work of junior engineers and designers for technical accuracy, coordination, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
• Assist project managers with scope, schedule, fee awareness, staffing needs, and identification of change conditions.
• Work with a high level of ownership, responsiveness, professionalism, and follow‑through; communicate problems early and contribute constructively to team solutions.

Requirements

• Typically 6‑9 years of relevant electrical building‑systems design, consulting engineering, or closely related experience.
• EIT required or strongly preferred depending on discipline; PE licensure preferred or active progress toward licensure expected.
• Demonstrated ability to lead substantial portions of discipline design and review junior staff work.
• Working knowledge of the NEC, building and energy codes, and common electrical design standards.
• Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft 365, and applicable electrical calculation/lighting software; familiarity with AGi32, ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, or similar tools is beneficial depending on role.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote professional environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, project managers, architects, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
