Job summary

Carbon Direct seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Power, Data and Innovation team. You will model power systems, support client engagements, and translate complex analytics into actionable insights for leadership and clients, advancing our decarbonization initiatives.

The role requires expertise in transmission and market models, familiarity with ISO/RTO rules, and strong communication skills to present results to non-technical stakeholders across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with experience managing internal/external clients in electric power industry.
Proficiency in transmission models (N-1 reliability, SCUC, SCED) and AC/DC power flow modeling.
Experience with production-cost models (e.g., PyPSA, PROMOD, Plexos, AURORA) for generation dispatch and market operations.

Responsibilities

Design, evaluate, and analyze electrical systems relevant to corporate decarbonization pathways.
Develop and maintain transmission planning, system reliability, and integrated system planning (IRPs/ISPs) and provide analyses for production cost modeling teams.
Conduct due diligence on projects involving electrical infrastructure, energy storage, or industrial electrification.
Present and translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations for clients and leadership.
Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, policy experts, and business development teams.
Contribute to publications and external communications on electrification and grid decarbonization.
Cross-collaborate with power and non-power teams to support climate tech model development.
